Arborway accident injures 6 people, 2 critically

A two-vehicle crash on the Arborway on Sept. 6 sent six victims to local hospitals, including two teenagers in critical condition, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s (DA) Office and the State Police.

Around 2 p.m. on Sept. 6, a 2003 Mazda SUV traveling westbound on the Arborway between the Casey Overpass and the Centre Street rotary jumped the median, rolled over and struck an oncoming 2004 Ford pickup.

The 18-year-old driver of the SUV and the adult driver of the pickup, whose age is not yet known, are in critical but stable condition, according to the DA’s Office. A 15-year-old passenger in the SUV suffered minor injuries, while two other passengers of that vehicle, both 14, are in pediatric intensive care. A 34-year-old passenger in the pickup suffered minor injuries.

Suffolk DA spokesperson Jake Wark said the cause of the crash is under investigation, which usually takes “a couple of weeks.”

That stretch of the Arborway has long been known for speeding traffic and accidents.
