Holidays in JP: JP businesses to chip in for charity

A group of Jamaica Plain businesses are getting into the holiday spirit and holding a Dec. 6 shopping initiative called “Shop w/a Cause” that will give up to 10 percent of all purchase prices to local nonprofits, according to a press release.

The charitable event will take place on Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following JP businesses: Blue Frog Bakery at 3 Green St. (to benefit Community Servings), Fire Opal at 683 Centre St. (to benefit Artists for Humanity), George’s Shoes at 669 Centre St. (to benefit The Home for Little Wanderers) and On Centre at 676 Centre St. (to benefit MSPCA-Angell Memorial).

“We’re excited about this new event, giving back has always been part of our holiday tradition and now we’re glad to include others in JP to make a bigger impact on the community,” said Steve Murakishi, owner of Fire Opal Craft Gallery and the event organizer, according to the press release.

The event coincides with the City’s holiday tree-lighting ceremonies in JP.
