Two Council races in JP for preliminary election

There will be two competitive City Council races—Districts 4 and 7—in Jamaica Plain during the City’s preliminary election Sept. 8.

The District 4 race, which covers parts of Forest Hills and Woodbourne, has four candidates: longtime City Councilor Charles Yancey, Andrea Campbell, Terrance Williams and Jovan Lacet.

City Councilor Tito Jackson faces five challengers for the District 7 seat: Charles Clemons, Kevin Dwire, Haywood Fennell, Althea Garrison and Roy Owens.

City Councilor Matt O’Malley of District 6, which covers most of JP, will not face an opponent in either the City’s preliminary election Sept. 8 or the general election in November. O’Malley began serving after winning a 2010 special election to fill a seat vacated by John Tobin.

Meanwhile, there are only five candidates for the At-Large City Council race. That means there will not be a preliminary election for that race and all candidates will appear on the November ballot. The top four vote getters receive a seat on the Council. The candidates are Annisa Essaibi George, Current At-Large City Councilors Stephen Murphy, Michael Flaherty, Ayanna Pressley and Michelle Wu.
