Mildred Hailey, a Jamaica Plain resident and longtime leader of the Bromley-Heath housing development, died on Nov. 18. She was 82.

Hailey founded the Bromley-Heath Tenant Management Corporation (TMC) along with Anna Mae Cole more than 40 years ago. It became a nationwide model for tenant-controlled public housing, with Hailey heading it as a major community leader.

She was the loving wife of the late Raleigh R. Hailey, Sr., beloved daughter of the late Rufus Hill Younger, Sr. & Mary Mildred Younger of Boston, cherished mother of James Hailey of Baltimore, MD, Dennis Hailey (deceased), Willie Hailey (Joyce), of Boston, Pamela Gillard (Daniel) of Hyde Park, David Worrell of Dorchester, Paula Martin (Stephen), & Patricia DeGrace (Michael), of Brockton, Raleigh R. Hailey, Jr. “Ricky” (Ellen), and Steven Hailey of Boston, loving sister of the late Thelma L. Patterson (James), Rufus H. Younger, Jr. (Lucy), of Boston, James M. Younger (Tommie) of Thomaston, AL, and sisters-in-law Margaret and Cynthia Younger. Her chosen children were Jacque Cummings Furtado and Sharon Jones.

She also leaves 26 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
