Meetings

         Housing and Economic Development Committee of the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council will hold its monthly meeting on Tues., June 19 at 7 pm at the Bowditch School, 82 Green St. (Community Room – entrance on sidewalk level, left of front stairs).  On the agenda will be Committee membership and officers, summary of open issues before the Committee, and monitoring of current development projects. All meetings are open to the public.

Upcoming JP Zoning Committee Meetings: June 20th at Farnsworth House.  The agenda for that meeting will include 260-260A Amory Street (renovate single-family house and add second-story addition in rear); 266-266A Amory Street (construct a new five-unit residential building per plans); and 16 Marmion Street (demolish existing single-family house and replace with five-unit residential building with underground parking).  After June 20th, the Committee’s next upcoming meetings will be July 11th and July 25th.

Legal Services Center Offers Summer Self-Help Extended Hours in June and July in Jamaica Plain, extended walk-in hours this summer on Tuesdays from 5-7 pm during June and July to provide self-help resources and referral information. The Legal Services Center provides free legal help for individuals facing housing, consumer, student loan, domestic violence, tax, veterans, and public benefits issues. All community members are invited to visit the Center, learn about its work, and meet with staff members to receive self-help resources and referral information. Coffee, tea, and refreshments will be provided. Healthy Kids Running Series (HKRS) is a series of races and competitions held on consecutive Sunday afternoons in the fall and spring for kids ages 3 – 8th grade, and it is a really great way for kids to experience fun competition, enjoy the outdoors and get in some activity on a (hopefully) nice weekend afternoon. parkrun is a grassroots, community running event, run by volunteers for the local running and walking community. We hold free timed 5k events every week.  Everyone is invited to run, jog or walk for 5k (two laps around the pond). We are very proud to be the first parkrun in Boston, MA. Its

been a very successful initiative for getting people of all ages outside to exercise, and to meet members of their local community. We meet on

Arborway Construction, During the weeks of June 4 and 11, operations will address the following elements: Around the intersection of Arborway/Washington Street: Installation of landscaping, Installation of sidewalks and specialized mixing zone pavers. Between the intersection of Arborway/South Street and Arborway/Washington Street: Installation of sidewalks and specialized mixing zone pavers, Construction of the northern (towards Green Street station) plaza and terminal for the Southwest Corridor Park and bicycle path, Installation of foundations and structural steel for the new, northern headhouse, Construction of the southern plaza between Forest Hills Station and the Arborway including landscaping and drainage. Along the Arborway west (towards the Arboretum) of South Street: Installation of the granite facing for the Arborway wall, Installation of landscaping. In the upper busway: Installation of canopy structural steel.

Nighttime Paving Operations, Beginning during the week of May 28th 2018, MassDOT’s contractor for the Casey Arborway Project, Barletta Heavy Division, will undertake nighttime paving operations project wide west (towards the Arboretum) of the West Roxbury District Courthouse.  Operations will begin at 8PM with all lanes returned to normal use by 6AM the following morning.  Night work will go on for approximately four weeks running from Sunday to Saturday each week.
