A record store called Deep Thoughts JP aims to open at 138b South St. on April 1, according to its website and Facebook page.
The store will sell records, tapes, CDs and books in a wide variety of genres, including free jazz, punk and “krautrock.” It also has announced a slate of in-store concerts starting April 7 with a show including Jamaica Plain-based Gracious Calamity.
While the store’s website notes its opening will be April Fools’ Day, it appears to be the real deal, with its planning in the works for months. Gracious Calamity confirmed its April 7 gig to the Gazette.
A man reached at a phone number on the store’s Facebook page identified himself as the co-owner but declined immediate comment and did not call back.
